Is my washing machine large capacity?

If you have purchased your washing machine in the past two years, there is a very good chance it may be a larger capacity. Please refer to the drum capacity stated in your instruction manual. If it's 5.5kg or more then it is large capacity. If you are unsure please check with the washing machine manufacturer.

I've recently purchased a LCWM, but I'm not getting the performance I expect. Why is this?

You are probably not using enough detergent. Remember with larger loads, you are introducing even more soil or dirt into the washing machine, some of which you can't see (e.g. sweat). Therefore we recommend you use the following on top of your normal detergent dosage:

Powder or Liquid: add an extra 1/2 scoop/dose

Tablets/Liquitabs: add 1 extra

What will happen if I don't use the right amount of detergent?

You will not get the most from your large capacity washing machine. Underdosing will mean some stains will not be removed due to the lack of cleaning ingredients. Also, you will have a shortage of soil suspension agents. This means that, during the wash, some of the dirt will redeposit back onto your clothes. In time this will make them look dull and dingy.

Can I really do fewer washes with my LCWM?

Yes, and LCWM also provide new opportunities. Your LCWM allows you to perform fewer, bigger washloads on your 'normal' laundry. The bigger drum allows you to wash items that you couldn't in your previous washing machine (e.g. duvets, curtains). However, you must refer to the fabric care label to ensure these items are machine washable.

What detergent should I use to wash these new, larger items?

Firstly, you need to check the fabric care label. If there isn't one on the item, we recommend you talk to the item manufacturer, then get back in touch with us with any details. Once we know the details we can then provide you with the best possible advice.

Can I put more laundry into the drum with my LCWM?

Yes, but remember to continue to follow good wash practices, like sorting washing into different coloured loads. Also, make sure that you don't include any non-colourfast items in your washload as these may bleed dye and ruin the rest of your washload. Remember with bigger loads, you are introducing even more soil or dirt into the washing machine - some of which you can't see (e.g. sweat).
